Q - How much does it cost?

A - To participate fully costs £9 per calendar month - that includes all parade nights & Sqn activities as well as flying, gliding, shooting etc.

Q - What will I do if I join?

Q - What are the best things cadets do?
A - As well as the flying and gliding, cadets make new friends and share a great team spirit.

Q - How often do you meet?
A - We meet on Monday and Friday evenings.

Q - When do I get my uniform?
A - Normally within 4 - 6 months.

Q - Who runs an ATC Squadron?
A - The ATC is staffed by reserve RAF Officers and other ATC and civilian volunteers.
 
Q - Will I have to do things I don't want to?
A - No!

Q - Do I have to join the Royal Air Force in later life?
A - No.

*13 May: 450 Squadron competed in the Surrey Wing Inter Squadron Athletics Championships and came 3rd overall. Other notable achievements were winners in the junior boys category, 3rd in the intermediate boys, 3rd in the senior girls and 2nd in the overall boys. The 450 Sqn success streak continues!

*7 May: 16 cadets gave up their Bank Holiday Monday to attend the John Fisher School fete to help raise funds for the Squadron

*28 Mar: 3 Cadets embarked on their first week long Easter Camp to RAF Waddington

*23 - 25 Mar: 6 Cadets took part in a shooting weekend at Longmoor Camp in Hampshire

*23 Mar: 6 Cadets began a 2 week visit to Florida in the United States, helping out at the International Sun 'n' Fun Air Show

*11 Mar: Almost 20 cadets gave up much of their weekend to assist at a our fund raising boot sale, making more than £1540! Well done to you all.

4 Mar: 450 Sqn entered full teams in the South Downs Trophy, results yet to be received. Well done to FS Hall for organising the training and teams.

*4 Feb: 8 cadets attended the Purley Swimathon, a sponsored swim for which we receive a donation. A total of 148 lengths of the pool were swum.

*28 Jan: 5 cadets attended some dry training on the L98 rifle held by 66 Squadron

*27-29 Jan: 3 Cadets from 450 attended the first Nijmegen training weekend

*22 Jan: Well done to Cadet Sullivan, who represented Surrey Wing in the Inter Wing Cross Country. He finished 20th in his category, out of more than 60 participants.

*15 Jan: The car boot sale took place in bitterly cold weather. However it was well supported by cadets, staff, committee and the public, bringing in £1322 profit. Well done to all who made it a success.

*13 Jan: 7 cadets were commended at the Surrey Wing Awards night for their achievements in the last year: CWO Stride and FS Hall (Flying Scholarship), CWO Hillam (Gold Duke of Edinburgh and Grade 1 Glider Pilot), FS Caplin, Cpl Black and Cdt Simpson (Sports), Cpl Nicolls (Nijmegen). A special mention goes to FS Hall who was this years 450 Sqn Best Cadet. Well done!

*10 Dec: EXAM RESULTS!!! Every Cadet that took examinations in the Leading, Senior & Master levels passed their subjects with flying colours. Highest scorers were FS Caplin, Cdt Belcher, Cdt Cogswell and Cdt Tailleur, all of whom attained a brilliant 96%!!

*4 Dec: More than 15 cadets assisted at the December Car Boot Sale raising funds towards the minibus appeal - Total profit was £871.56!

*27 Nov: 450 Sqn competed in the Wing Cross Country Competition at RAF Kenley. The boys team came 1st and overall the Squadron came 3rd. Well done to all that so enthusiastically took part!

*5 Nov: 7 cadets from 450 Squadron did the 'Method Of Instruction' course and are now staff cadets able to wear the yellow lanyard

*22 Oct: The deadline for returning balloons from our balloon race reached us. The balloon that travelled the furthest was returned from LITHUANIA!!

*17 Oct: Plans and ideas for resurrecting the Duke of Edinburgh Award were presented to the Squadron.

*8 Oct: 5 cadets from 450 Sqn represented Surrey Wing at the London & South East Region Swimming Gala and helped the Region secure 1st place!

*8 Oct: 1 cadet from 450 Sqn represented Surrey Wing at Aircraft Recognition at the London & South East Region Field Day at RAF Northolt.

*7 Oct: We have just been advised that we raised £112.70 for the RAFA Wings Appeal 2011.

*30 Sep - 2 Oct: 4 NCOs from the Squadron attended a Wing run NCO course and learned a great deal.

*5 Dec - WINGS APPEAL RESULT! Cadets from 450 Sqn raised a whopping £388.10 for the RAF Association Wings Appeal back in September. Result is just in.

*27 August - Regional Commandant Group Captain Hakin attended 450 Squadron for an informal visit. He addressed the Cadets and was very pleased with the turnout and atmosphere at the Squadron.

*14 August - 32 Cadets from 450 Squadron joined a workforce of more than 50 Cadets from Surrey Wing to help at the 'RAF Kenley Airday' - which was a very wet airshow indeed!

*31 July - 7 Aug: 13 Cadets and 4 Staff spent a week on Squadron Camp in the Isle of Wight, taking in a range of activities whilst walking the coastal route of the island

If you are between 13 - 17 years old, you can join the ATC. You only need to be up for a challenge!
