Corps Swimming Gala

On the 27th October cadets Fossett E, Fossett Z, Simpson and Sandle, represented 450 squadron and LASER up at RAF Cranwell for the national air cadet swimming gala.

We left for Cranwell on the 26th by coach from Three Bridges and picked up the rest of the team from RAF Northolt. We eventually arrived at Cranwell at 11:10 after a long 7 hour journey stuck in a traffic jam on the M25.

We stayed in a block with all the other regions such as The North, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Wales and west. South west, Central and East.

After a small amount of sleep we woke up at 0600 to find it snowing outside. Everyone was dressed and outside for breakfast by 06:45. Breakfast was entertaining as we skipped the queue for supposedly hot food and the northerners burning their toast creating a horrid smell. Once everyone had finished breakfast, we went back and packed our bags ready to leave for the gala.

Once we had done a long warm up, the racing began. Cdt Sandle raced in the junior boys 50m individual freestyle and swam his hardest for 4th place and just missing out on a medal. He was also part of the medley and freestyle relay, and the team came third in both so got 2 bronze medals.

Cdt Simpson raced in the senior girls 100m individual breastroke and came third by swimming hard and coming back from 4th place, picking up a lovely bronze medal along with a gold medal in the medley relay.

Cdt Fossett E raced in the junior girls freestyle relay bringing her team up to third and getting a bronze medal.

Cdt Fossett Z raced in the senior girls medley relay bringing the team up from 2nd to 1st and getting a gold medal. She also swam in the freestyle relay picking up a 2nd gold of the day.

In between our races we cheered on our team mates and had fun chatting with new friends.

Overall LASER came first winning a massive trophy for the first time in 15 years while also coming second in overall junior and senior girls and joint third in junior boys with a second in senior boys.

On the journey, back everyone was very tired and slept apart from us who played the classic game eye spy until we reached Three Bridges.
